A new, affordable interior design consultancy service that offers personalised advice in manageable, budget-friendly sessions... tailored guidance to help make confident design decisions ~ advice and recommendations, quick tips, an ear, an eye, and support for random ideas or long held concerns.

The idea behind the idea is focused on providing inspiration and an experienced helping hand rather than physical visits or commissioning a team. The aim is to offer short, focused, affordable advice that empowers you to take ownership and pride in your project.

I can help you from design to styling; from mood board creation, product sourcing, trade recommendation, finding your individual style, give you a yes or no, a this or that, a where and when, show you how to be confident with colour, and much more.

A typical hourly consultation consists of a 30-minute Zoom or phone call followed by 30 minutes of preparatory work, this can include summaries of our chats, solutions, and/or just inspiration.

Booking a chunk of time with me is done online via the form. The hour can be broken down into smaller slots, some calls, some Zoom, text or email ~ all calls if you prefer… whatever suits your needs.

Gift chunks for friends and family are also available.

HELEN ELLERY

Helen Ellery is a British designer recognised for her distinctive and eclectic approach, with a strong emphasis on integrating natural elements into urban settings. Drawing on seasonal influences, wit, and a meticulous attention to detail, she brings a thoughtful and imaginative perspective to her work. Ellery holds a background in graphic design from Central Saint Martins and interior design from Chelsea College of Arts London.

In 1998 whilst living in London, Helen set up her first design business, The Plot London, inspired by the desire to make living in a large city a gentler experience. She went on to convert this concept into various projects and her first book 'OUTSIDE INSIDE - let your home reflect the seasons’ was published by Conran Octopus. Having also founded and managed the art gallery PEA, developed the concept workshops ~ Allotment, and worked as a creative director for several London and Bristol based property development companies. Helen has worked across the design spectrum from projects as diverse as a 36-roomed manor house, a cosy B&B by the sea, and large-scale contemporary, commercial and residential developments in London and Bristol through to Housing Association contracts, high end show apartments and luxury serviced apartments in Knightsbridge, London.

Helen features in the Farrow & Ball design book ~ Living With Colour and interiors publications by Ros Byam Shaw... Press coverage to date includes features in Homes and Gardens, House Gardens, The Independent, The Observer, The Evening Standard, The Times, IDFX, Country Living and HELLO! She has also featured as a consultant designer in various television programmes and was a member of the D&AD judging panel for the student awards. Helen intends to produce her own range of textiles, wallpapers, and paints in the near future.

HowDo is Helen’s latest design adventure to make interior design and styling decisions easier and affordable for everyone.

“On the wall next to her desk, she has pinned a couple of packets of seeds - richly coloured pansies and lupins to inspire her and, like the ideas in her sketchbooks, to grow into something big, bold and beautiful. Hers is a very fertile plot indeed.”
